The mapping process starts with the RFP (request for proposal). We have provided a convenient "Get A Quote" page to assist with this step. Along with that information, we need to see an outline of the site to be mapped, preferably on a USGS quad. This can either be e-mailed or faxed. We are happy to provide estimates at no additional cost. Given enough information, we will contact you within 48 hours with a proposal that outlines the cost of the flight, mapping, ground survey, etc. If we are selected to do the mapping, we ask our clients to sign and date the proposal next to the prices and fax that page back to us. After the project is given the OK to proceed, will we schedule a flight immediately. Flights are performed as soon as weather and ground conditions are acceptable. Although we do fly year round, ideally we need a clear sky during the spring or fall, when the sun angle is optimal and leaves are off the trees. We can also schedule a flight to be performed at a certain time, as per the client's request. Once the flight is completed, we receive two sets of 9"x9" photos of the site. One set is for your files. The other is used to determine what ground control is required to accurately perform the mapping. This set is given to the survey crew to use in the field to locate the ground control. We can provide this survey if needed. Upon receiving the control photos, we proceed with the actual mapping. Large jobs often require aero-triangulation, a process that reduces the amount of necessary ground control. This is an additional step, but in the end it reduces survey cost and survey time. After the ground control is determined to be accurate, the mapping is ready to be started. The final step is editing and translating the mapping. This provides a polished project that is presentable to any client, and ready for design. The translation is flexible and we can cater to your specifications. You may receive the data however you would like it. Unless specified, we provide the mapping using our standard layers and symbols. Typically, we e-mail the mapping file as soon as we finish the editing, and send a disk in the mail. |
